I am an issues-based organizer and community land developer. I have a life-long commitment to social justice and a background in performing arts. I helped gut and rebuild the home I live in and cleared garbage strewn lots to build community gardens. I have served as a member of parent associations, a president’s council, the Manhattan Federation of High Schools and the Chancellor’s Parent Advisory Council (CPAC). I was a leader of the parent coalition responsible for the establishment of CPAC as well as the DOE Office of Parent Engagement now known as the Office of Family and Community Engagement. Before taking a job with the Education Chair of the New York State Assembly, I served as President of the United Parents Associations of NYC, Inc. I am also a proud, former singer with Sweet Honey in the Rock.
