Diplomas, Designations, and Endorsements

Overview

In New York State, students are eligible for three types of diplomas - local, Regents, and Advanced Regents diplomas - by earning at least 44 course credits and 5 assessment credits in specific disciplines. At TU, students work towards the highest-level of diploma and additional designations and endorsements wherever possible, exceeding the minimum requirements for graduation and specializing in particular subjects.

Advanced Regents Diploma

Earn the following course credits (grades of 65+)

  • (8) Core English
  • (8) Social Studies = (4) Global History + (2) US History, (1) Participation in Government + (1) Economics
  • (6) Mathematics = (4) any mathematics + (2) advanced mathematics
  • (6) Science = (2) Biological Science + (2) Physical Science + (2) any science
  • (6) Languages Other Than English*
  • (5) Wellness = (1) Health + (5) Physical Education
  • (2) Arts
  • (3) Electives = from any disciplines above*

 

Earn the following examination credits (scores of 65+)

  • (1) English Regents = English Language Arts
  • (1) Social Studies Regents = Global History and Geography or U.S. History and Government
  • (3) Mathematics Regents = Algebra 1 + Geometry + Algebra 2
  • (2) Science Regents = Living Environment + Chemistry or Earth Science or Physics
  • (1) Any additional Regents or other State-Approved Assessment
  • (1) Languages Other Than English*

 

* Advanced Regents Diploma with Arts or CTE Endorsement require

  • (2) Languages Other Than English credits
  • (7) Elective credits
  • (0) Languages Other Than English examination

Regents Diploma

Earn the following course credits (grades of 65+)

  • (8) Core English
  • (8) Social Studies = (4) Global History + (2) US History, (1) Participation in Government + (1) Economics
  • (6) Mathematics = (4) any mathematics + (2) advanced mathematics
  • (6) Science = (2) Biological Science + (2) Physical Science + (2) any science

  • (2) Arts
  • (7) Electives = from any disciplines above

 

Earn the following examination credits (scores of 65+)

Local Diploma

Students who meet specific criteria may be eligible to graduate with examination scores below 65.

Honors Designation

Score 90+ average on all required Regents examinations for the diploma type

Mastery in Math Designation

Score 85+ on all (3) Mathematics Regents Examinations

  • Mastery in Science Designation

    Score 85+ on (3) Science Regents Examinations from any below

  • Living Environment
  • Chemistry
  • Earth Science
  • Physics
  • Chancellor's Arts Endorsement

    Earn (10) credits in an arts discipline

  • Dance
  • Music
  • Theater
    Earn corresponding NYCDOE Arts Commencement Examination credit
  • Career and Technical Education (CTE) Endorsement

    Earn (6) credits in New York State-Approved CTE sequence

  • Dance
  • Theater
    Earn (1) credit in Career and Finance Management
    Earn (1) Performing Arts Pathway NOCTI Assessment
    Complete Work-Based Learning experience
